The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has criticized the International Criminal Court (ICC), calling it against Afghanistan’s sovereignty. According to the declaration issued by Afghan government, the ICC operates with political motivations rather than upholding the principles of justice and fairness.
The declaration states that the ICC has historically made decisions influenced by political agendas rather than impartial justice. The Emirate alleges that the court has shown bias towards certain world powers, raising serious concerns about its neutrality.
Furthermore, the Islamic Emirate asserted that Afghanistan cannot accept membership in a court that prioritizes political ambitions over justice.
The Islamic Emirate also criticized ICC for its silence on war crimes committed worldwide, arguing that millions of innocent people especially women, children, and civilians have suffered atrocities in various countries including Afghanistan, without any significant action taken by the court.
The statement further accused foreign forces and their local allies of committing war crimes in Afghanistan, leading to the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians.
In statement Afghan government highlighted the carnages of foreign forces citing that entire villages were wiped out, wedding ceremonies bombed and educational institutions, mosques and hospitals were destroyed. Additionally, women, children, the elderly, and incarcerated prisoners were made victims of brutalities.
“Despite these war crimes, the ICC has failed to taken any effective action against these atrocities,” the statement stressed. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has questioned why the court remained silent on these grave crimes if it truly stands for justice.
The Islamic Emirate also emphasized the fact that major world powers, including the United States, China and Russia, are not members of the ICC. It questioned why Afghanistan’s membership is deemed necessary when powerful nations have opted out of the court’s jurisdiction.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan while reaffirming its stance, stated it operates a free and independent system in light of Islamic Sharia law and will not accept oversight by anybody pursuing a political agenda.
