Following the amendment of the Public Universities Act in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the chancellorship of all public universities in the province was transferred from Governor Faisal Karim Kundi to Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

A letter issued from the Governor’s Secretariat confirmed the transfer of the chancellor’s power to the Chief Minister. The letter also specified that all universities records are now under the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

Additionally, the letter instructed that all pending cases and complaints be forwarded to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. The vice chancellors (VCs) were directed to do their correspondence with the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

It should be noted that in November 2024, the Provincial Cabinet amended the Universities Act. According to which the tenure of the vice chancellors has been set at 4 years and granted the chief minister the authority to appoint them.

Under the revised act, the Chief Minister will be the Chancellor of all public sector universities.
