Kabul, UAE Strengthen Ties, Afghan FO also meets Indian Delegation

The foreign Minister (FO) of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Maulvai Ameer Khan Muttaqi has said that United Arab Emirates (UAE) has pledged $400 million in aid to Kabul during current year, while several key proposals to enhance bilateral relations have also been agreed upon.

Following his two-day visit to the UAE, Ameer Khan Muttaqi held press briefing at foreign office in Kabul. He has described his meeting with Abdullah Bin Zayed, his UAE counterpart highly productive, as range of issues of mutual interests were discussed in the meeting.

Afghan FO has said that it was decided during the meeting that the Afghan Consulate in Dubai will be upgraded to the level of General Consulate.

“UAE officials agreed upon to set up a “Logistic Center” in their country aimed to promote Afghan products and imports, additionally a joint committee will also be formed to promote trade between two countries along with a commitment to cooperate in banking system,” Muttaqi added.

He said that collaborative committee of Kabul and UAE will be formed for visa facilitation to traders and citizens.

“It was also agreed during the meeting with the UAE minister for economy and representatives of various ministries that Afghan traders could find markets for their products in UAE,” Afghan FO told reporters.

He said that that a joint committee was also set up to allocate some space around the UAE airport for Afghan aircraft. The UAE has also agreed to provide training to Afghan personnel in connection with air service.

“UAE was invited to invest in Afghanistan on which they respond positively,” he added.

The Afghan FO also shared that he had met with high level delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India during his visit to the UAE. Discussion with the Indian representatives included enhancing trade and diplomatic relations, while India also agreed to ease the visa process for Afghan businessmen.

Maulvai Ameer Khan Muttaqi has stressed that the Islamic Emirate’s policy is focused on economic development and we are committed to fostering friendly political, diplomatic and commercial relations with all neighboring and regional countries, including India.
