At least 74 children have been killed in relentless strikes carried out by Israel in the Gaza Strip in just the first seven days of 2025.
In the first seven days of 2025, 74 Palestinian children were martyred in late-night Zionist attacks in Gaza City, Khan Yunis and in unilaterally designated “Safe Zone” Al-Mawasi, in the south, according to a report by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
UNICEF also confirmed that five children were martyred in a recent Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) strike in Al-Mawasi yesterday.
UNICEF Executive Director, Catherine Russell condemned the violence, states, “For the children of Gaza, the new year has brought more death and suffering from attacks, deprivation, and increasing exposure to the cold,” said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell.
“A ceasefire is long overdue, too many children have been killed or lost loved ones in a tragic start to the new year,” she added.
UNICEF also voiced concern that in addition to the bombing, the continued lack of basic shelter and winter temperatures pose serious threat to children lives.
The organization further expressed concern over the ongoing humanitarian crisis, with many children are facing extreme risks due to the lack of shelters in the harsh winter conditions.
“More than a million children are living in makeshift tents, with many families displaced in the past 15 months, with children facing extreme risks,” fact highlighted in the report.
Since December 26, eight newborns have reportedly died of hypothermia (body temperature drop below 35 degree) as the temperature continue to fall in the region.
It is to be remembered that in its early report, UNICEF cited the Palestinian Ministry of Health that since the beginning of the war, 14,000 Palestinian children have been martyred in the Zionist aggression.
