The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan hailed Saudi Arabia initiative to reopen its Embassy in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan. The Saudi Embassy has officially resumed its operation in Kabul.
The Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Kabul has announced that this decision was made to provide services to Afghan citizens. Conversely, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate has welcomed the reopening of the Saudi Embassy and called it as a positive step in the expansion of relations between Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia.
Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a message that the re-opening of the embassy will provide a higher level of convenience to Afghans living in Saudi Arabia.
“We welcome the reopening of the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Kabul and assure that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan will cooperate in all matters and pay full attention to their security,” Takal asserted.
In addition, Zakir Jalali, the Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also characterized the reopening of the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Kabul as a pivotal step in the expanding of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

A day earlier, the Charge D Affaires of the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad, Sardar Ahmad Shakeeb, called on the Deputy Ambassador of Saudi Arabia, Meshaal Al Shamri. He later said that he had a positive conversation with the deputy ambassador in which the two discussed strengthening bilateral ties, facilitating the visa process for Afghan nationals, and addressing other issues of mutual interest.
It should be noted that after the establishment of the Islamic Emirate in August 2021, Saudi Arabia suspended its diplomatic activities in Afghanistan and expelled its diplomats from the country and later closed the embassy in February 2023.
Currently, several countries including Turkey, China, Russia, Pakistan, and Iran have opened their embassies in Kabul and Afghanistan has forty diplomatic missions in different countries.
